Career City Underground-Fiction Writing-The Desk Drawer Marinade

You’ve just finished something. It’s great, you love it. Well done.
Put it in a drawer and forget about it for at least two days.
When you take it out, read it aloud. This is a trick my dad, a 22 year veteran of the mean streets of English Lit classrooms taught me and it’s absolutely bulletproof. Every clunky line will stumble out of your mouth, every word that doesn’t work will scream for help. It’s awkward, annoying stuff but you’ll fix the problems much faster than you think. And far more easily than if you’d not locked it away for two days.
