Marvel movies are all the same, the common complaint goes. There’s validity to that, especially in the days of Phase Two where we saw ‘this gifted brilliant white man is SAD, everyone!’ several times in a row. There’s certainly a conversation to be had about if ‘these movies all happen in the same universe’ is the same thing as ‘these movies all have the same sense of humour.’
But I think a much more interesting conversation is about Eternals, and what happens when you finally make a hero movie that does what it says on the tin.
