The UK version of Saturday Night Live was expected to be a punchline. A TFI Friday for the Gen Z crowd, self-consciously cool while feverishly mimicking it’s creatively bankrupt giga-leviathan sibling across the Pond. It shouldn’t work. It works. In fact, it’s frequently brilliant and has already successfully jumped the twin hurdles of Dull Musical Guest and Crappy Host. The worst sketches are solid, the best sketches are incredible, and in the six episodes to date it’s found a sweet spot halfway between Teen Edge Lord Smugness and Cheerfully Surreal Mania. I’m alive in 2026 so ‘Satire’ is a four letter word for me but Weekend Update, and George Fouraces playing the Prime Minister like Zippy from Rainbow with an Oxbridge degree have landed every single time.
