An ecologically sound alternative to the Hostile Environment sweeps the UK. Rather imprisoning or deporting illegal immigrants or criminals, the Government vegetizing them, turning them into trees. It’s a greener, safer polite village green nightmare that government film maker Tom and his wife Mari find themselves facing.
Adapted by Max Gee and directed by Friend of the Lid Tony Hipwell, Standing Woman is based on the short story by Yasutaka Tsutsui of the same name, the author of Paprika and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. That pedigree sets your expectations high, and this short film exceeds them.
