A Knight’s Tale is Chaucer with guitars.
For anyone not familiar with the 2001 film, let me give you some context:
Desperate for food, Will, the squire of a dead knight, impersonates his recently deceased master at a tournament, wins just enough money to get home, and has just enough fun to want more. He and friends Roland and What continue the deception, aided by Kate the blacksmith and Geoffrey Chaucer. (Yes, that Geoffrey Chaucer.) Will falls in love with Princess Jocelyn, in hate with celebrity sociopath jousting star Count Ademar, and dedicates himself to becoming world champion. It’s a sports tapestry. It’s Rocky with jousting. It’s a strong contender for a perfect movie and all but impossible to adapt.
But impossible is Will’s favourite target.
