The Full Lid – 30th June 2023

Faulkner builds the book out into its supernatural elements with the barely contained glee of a mousetrap architect who just got their hands on a 3D printer. Jack is a fascinating presence: amicable until he’s terrifying, a force of nature in every way whose final reveals are just pitch-perfect. Jack feels convincingly alien, like a god in a series of well-fitted suits that still have something off about them. The two clashes with him are both brutal and both revolve around the boys struggling to match their discovery of themselves, and their powers, with the situation those powers can save themselves from.
