Thunderbolts* is haunted. As the Marvel logo appears and the fanfare starts, it doesn’t last long before being stripped down to disembodied bass notes, fading into muted darkness and shadow. The movie arrives at the end of MCU Phase Five, and a lot of its audience’s patience. The often joyless trudge of The Multiverse Saga has felt unfocused long before Jonathan Majors’ catastrophic life choices and the literal years it has taken to finally get to something approaching a plot arc have been exhausting. We know it. The movie knows it. Star Trek knows it.
