I do a lot of work for the Doctor Who RPG. In fact I’ve just finished a chunk of stuff for the upcoming Dinosaurs & Spaceships book which allowed me to put something very odd under the Natural History Museum and give the Silurians their Richard III.
I love this job. Not just because my inner 12-year old is on a permanent sugar high with it but because it’s so much fun. I cut my teeth as a professional RPG writer on Doctor Who and it’s a game I love and source material that’s written on my DNA.
Plus one time I got to turn a small Yorkshire town into a a wound in time. Arrowdown was the first adventure I ever wrote for the game. A module about true love, mad science, a funfair ghost train, Autons and really good chips it was a headlong sprint up a vertical learning curve and I loved every second of it.
And, it turns out, I’m not alone.
Arrowdown was recently updated and released as a free module for the game. You can find it here. It’s also just been nominated for an ENnie which, frankly, has blown me away. Here’s what the ENnies are:
The Gen Con EN World RPG Awards (the “ENnies”) are an annual fan-based celebration of excellence in tabletop roleplaying gaming. The ENnies give game designers, writers and artists the recognition they deserve. It is a peoples’ choice award, and the final winners are voted upon online by the gaming public.
…
With award categories recognizing the components that make a game great to the types of products fans have come to love, categories for fan-based websites and much more, the ENnies are the best way for fans to acknowledge outstanding effort from and to say “thank you” to the publishers, designers and artists who make this hobby great.
Something I wrote, solely, is shortlisted for an industry award. That’s amazing and one of those pieces of vindication so bulletproof even Captain No Self Confidence over here can tell it’s a really good thing. Here are the shortlists, Arrowdown is under Best Free Product.
It’s been a long time since I wrote that module but I’m still really proud of it. It’s a defiantly Yorkshire piece of science fiction and it’s got a chase scene I love to death. I’m amazed, and delighted, that it’s got a new lease of life and I’m proud of the company it, and I, are keeping. Good job, little module.
Incidentally if you’re interested in my other Who stuff, here’s where you can find it:
Doctor Who: Adventures in Time & Space– (I wrote two full length adventures for this; Arrowdown and Judoom! which features my favorite title ever and, in the Judoon officer with a fondness for Flanders and Swann, my favorite NPC.)
Aliens and Creatures – (I wrote a lot of the creature breakdowns for this and the full length adventure, featuring the return of my favorite characters from The Satan Pit/The Impossible Planet story)
I’ve also got the 10th Doctor Sourcebook coming soon and material in the Dinosaurs & Spaceships sourcebook and new version of the rulebook. I’ll pop links up as soon as they’re available.
Now, to dust off that TARDIS/Chip Shop module…
