I am always here for universal RPG tools, and Roll & Play do some of the best. I picked up their Gamemaster’s Sci-Fi Toolkit a little while ago and I’ve been having great fun with it. It’s a series of tables, covering everything from Names to Ship Malfunctions, Alien Rulers and Knock-Off Goods. Roll a dice, make a note, do it again, and you’ve got something you can use in a session basically instantly.
I love tools like this because they make you get out of your own way. I’ve been testing it out and across this series of articles, I’ll show you what I came up with, building out from these prompts into unique characters and locations. This week, it’s the crew of the Mist Run, and today it’s their Chief of Security.
Undrefell Shadow-Chief of Security
Murder Jeeves, Clocking In
Becca Undrefell Shadow is a tenth generation police officer who chewed through the fences of her life the second she worked out what the family business was.
Blessed with the frame of a linebacker and cursed to live in a time where everyone assumed she was an idiot, Becca skipped from bouncer to cook to driver to mechanic to pitfighter to pitfighter coach to pitfighter management in three years. She’s got the scars to prove it, and likes to joke that all of them come from board meetings. She took the second name ‘Shadow’ initially as her ring name (She was a pressure fighter who stuck to her opponents like a shadow) and ‘Undrefell’ because a Krysgully announcer once mangled the word ‘Undefeated’ so badly it sounded like that. She thought it was cool, and it was, and honestly so is she.
Undrefell is notionally the Chief of Security but Jhaewyn is a baby cime boss so she’s also the entirety of his security section. She’s calm to the point of laconic, a little wry and gentle until the time comes for her to be anything but gentle. The velvet glove wrapped around the over caffeinated fist, she’s the Mist Run’s designated adult and she’s having a blast.
