The HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast does exactly what its title suggests; discusses Lovecraft in a literary context. What the title doesn’t suggest is the enthusiasm, humour and absolute awareness of HPL’s legion of shortcomings the show embodies. I had the pleasure of attending a live recording in Leeds in 2012 with my friend, the fiercely talented Wayne Peters. The cast ragged, mercilessly, and deservedly on the story they were discussing but did so without any malice and with a ton of eloquence and glee. It takes real talent to discuss something you love and the problems it has without apologizing or bashing and they did neither. It really was fun and educational.
Also Chris Lackey put out a really kickass graphic novel a couple of years ago.
Now, the chaps are going on tour! Here they are to talk about what and how and where:
The H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast (hppodcraft.com) has been running since 2009 and has done two very successful live shows. One in Leeds, West Yorkshire in 2012 and one at the NecronomiCon in Providence in 2013. Now that it’s 2015, we feel it’s about time to step up our game and do two live shows in one year! One in Providence, again at NecronomiCon and in Chicago, Illinois this October. And we need your help to do it!
This Kickstarter is not just about live shows, we plan on doing audio recordings of these shows for all the folks that can’t make it. We’re also going to be trying out our Lovecraftian Comedy Quiz show as well. Trivia and comedy in one live event? YES!
We’re coming from the California and the UK – the money we raise will pay for our travel and lodging when we’re in New England and Chicago.
All audio will initially be exclusively for backers of this Kickstarter. So if you can’t make it to Providence, you can still be part of the fun!
The Kickstarter has already made its goal but the stretch goals are lovely;
$6,500 STRETCH GOAL REACHED!!!: Full story reading of H.P. Lovecraft’s ‘The Statement of Randolph Carter’ read by Andrew Leman!
$7,200 STRETCH GOAL REACHED!!!: Full story reading of ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ by Charlotte Perkins Gilman read by Heather Klinke!
$7,900 STRETCH GOAL: Full story reading of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Outsider OR Pickman’s Model (chosen by vote) as read by Greig Johnson!
I just pledged them 5 bucks, which gets me this;
THE AUDIO – At this level you’ll receive access to the both the Providence and Chicago live shows, as well as any additional audio generated by stretch goals
Estimated delivery: Nov 2015
That’s an excellent deal however you cut it. The Kickstarter is here. The show is here. Go check both out.
